A New Home

December 12

We met today with the sweet couple that is letting us rent their house and we signed a contract!! The Lord definitely brought them into our lives and is using them to answer so many prayers. When we spoke with them, they told us we could rent the house for as little or as long as we need!! They are going to take it off the market so we can have a home. They also are not requiring us to sign a lease which is a HUGE answer to prayer since we are planning to leave for Togo in the fall.

It's not that I ever doubted the Lord would provide for our needs, but every time He does it just amazes me that such a BIG God cares about me!

Lord, help me to be thankful today for all the ways you love me and provide for my family. Help me to see your goodness in the small things.

No tears!!!

December 11th

Today was a big day for me. With the Lord's help, today was the first day I didn't cry. Each day, the Lord gives me the strength I need. A verse that has been such a comfort to me lately is
Psalm 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
I don't have a home, but the Lord has promised me that in my time of trouble, He will hide me in his pavilion. I'd much rather be sheltered by Him, than by any earthly structure!

Lost....

Dec 3rd

We went shopping tonight. I wandered around like I was lost. Normally I LOVE shopping, but not now. Instead, I was frustrated. People have given gift cards, so John told me to go get what I needed. But to be honest, I still don't even know what I need. Where do you even begin to rebuild and entire wardrobe. I know the ladies in the store thought I was crazy as I walked around crying. I tried on dresses and cried. I tried on shoes and cried. I tried to get things that were versatile and could be worn everyday or dressed up for church. But then there is shoes and shirts, dresses, skirts, pajamas.......little by little, with the Lord's help, we will rebuild our lives, one step at a time.

Round, round, get around, I get around!!!

Dec 10

The last few days have been so busy. I never would have imagine all the running around you have to do after something like this happens- cancelling water, electricity, going to the post office to change you address, getting medications refilled, looking for a rental house, and on and on. We get calls all thoughout the day from people wanting to meet us to give us clothing, toys, or other needed items. We have been amazed at how supportive people have been. The busyness helps though....it's when I sit down and think that I cry. So I am trying to stay as busy as I can.

This morning we went and looked at a house in our neighborhood that we might rent. It is three houses down from us and the family that owns it has bought another house. This house has been on the market for a few months, but has not sold. On the morning of the fire, the owner Jennifer contacted us and told us we could rent the house. She said that right after the fire, she was praying and asked the Lord what they could do to help up. And she felt the Lord say, "A house, they need a house". She told the Lord that was something they could help with!

I got so excited when we looked at it. One of the kids rooms is painted Carolina blue( for Aiden) and the other room is purple(for the girls)! The girls room also had a double sided closet, which I thought was just the neatest thing since they share a room. I know, it's the small things!! John and I will have to pray and decide which house to rent.

To smile or not to smile.....that is the question??

Dec. 9th

We met with the photographer today who is taking the picture for the article for the News Argus. She was a nice girl...seemed like a teenager, hyper and bubbly. It was an odd experience. She posed us several times in different places around what is left of the houes. The kids did well. They always like meeting new people. I think it was hardest for me. I couldn't figure out if I should smile or not! These definitely aren't happy days.

A Strange Meeting

December 8th

Our local newspaper contacted us about writing a story about the fire. It seems kind of strange to me. We are no one special. News must be slow here in Goldsboro lately! But when John and I talked about it, we thought it might be a good oppurtunity to brag on the Lord... to tell people how thankful for are for all the Lord has done for us. So we met with the man today that will write the story. It was kind of odd being interviewed. And it was kind of hard telling the story again. I hope people can see our hearts through all this.

Family arrives!!

Decemeber 7th

John's parents arrived today from Iowa. They drove nearly 20 hours, straight through the night, to help us out. John was already at the house and I drove up to meet them there. It was a sad moment standing outside realizing I had no where to offer them to stay. A sweet man in our church is letting them stay in his guest house.

John's father has already been in the house...digging to see if he can recover anything we had missed. He found the center of the plaque that fell off one of the walls. It said, "Jesus is the head of this house." Even though there is little left to the physical structure we once called home, He is still the center of our home.

I know John is encouraged to have his folks here. I'm sure they will be a big help!
